Saving Smiles - Changing Lives
Brief History
...a combined term of Rota (Rotary) and plast (plastic surgery).
Rotaplast provides free reconstructive surgery to children and adults born with
the cleft lip and palate anomoly - a deformity that can lead to serious malnutrition,
child abandonment and severe social disparagement.
Children affected by the cleft anomaly grow up in isolation, and from the normal joys of childhood. Though often loved by their families, they are frequently tormented and rejected by their peers, cut off from society to the extent that they are deprived of any chance of education and treated as outcasts. They are also prone to serious upper respiratory problems and hearing loss.
With the aid of medical and non-medical volunteers and donors, Rotaplast provides these unfortunate children with free reconstructive surgery, dental treatment and speech therapy that will allow them to have a normal appearance, speak effectively and swallow food correctly.
