Rotaplast Canada was established as a charitable organization in 2004 to provide information, guidance, coordination, and support for Canadian Rotarians and non-Rotarians, including medical professionals, interested in participating in Rotaplast International missions. Coordinating closely with Rotaplast International which operationalizes the missions, Rotaplast Canada funds missions which provide free reconstructive surgery, dental treatments and speech therapy for individuals born with the cleft and palate anomaly and also provides plastic surgery procedures for people suffering from various other disfiguring conditions including serious burn victims. Rotaplast Canada also supports Rotaplast International's goal of eliminating the incidence of untreated cleft lips and palates in children worldwide by 2025 and particularly the promotion of self sufficiency in developing countries where we help train local physicians, family counselors and collaborating with health officials on the development of sustainable cleft palate programs. Through the generous support of Rotarians, Rotary Clubs, and individual donors, Rotaplast Canada has its in first four years provided financial and volunteer support or facilitation for missions to the Philippines, Ethiopia, India, China, Chile, Vietnam and is currently planning a November 2009 mission to Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.
